short and (occasionally) not so short ramblings about the live music that i have "witnessed".

THE FALL ::

THE FALL + some band that i don't remember its name anymore
szene wien / vienna, austria
13th oct. 2004

yes, there indeed was a support band. but they sucked. i mean, they were a very nice bunch of people and kinda, you know, enthusiastic about what they did, but what they did was sort of... bad, really. there's no other way to put it. i guess, they were trying to be a mixture of post-punk jadedness with DIE GOLDENEN ZITRONEN punkism. well, guys - i think they were called the DOC SCHOKO BAND or something - it didn't work.

main act: THE FALL. honestly, i do enjoy my bit of post-punk carelessness and musical ambiguity about as much as the next guy, certainly when it's served by mr. smith and his cohorts, but, mark e., dude, lay off the alcohol! it's one thing to be on stage as a youthful hipster punk and stumble drunkenly around, tripping over cables and into band members while trying not to forget the words to the song you're about to belch into the mic in that trademark understating non-chalant drawl. but it's an entirely different thing if you're looking like a junkie fresh outta rehab and are too drunk to even move around properly and that drawl of yours turns into an annoying verse of drunkard babble.
couldn't really make up my mind. really loved the songs, really abhored mark e. smith's behaviour on stage. so, i left after about 30 minutes. i hear that it's been a good concert all in all. the music was, no doubt.
